Is there a Tooth Fairy in the house?

Published Oct. 31, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Is there another group of athletes more reliable than NHL players?

For instance, in the midst of the NFL season, with guys crashing full-speed into one another every Sunday, knocking one another out for the season, it seems like every night there's a hockey player taking some gruesome injury (usually to the face) — and usually just playing through it.

Wednesday's Tough Guy candidate? The Penguins' Pascal Dupuis. He may be 34. He may be on the same team as Mr. NHL Sidney Crosby. And he may the league's reigning plus-minus king. But he's also tough as nails. Check this out:

Lest you think this is an isolated event, the Islanders' John Tavares pulled the same trick Oct. 11.

Tavares is 23 and his career highlights include being the No. 1 overall pick in 2009, tallying just one less point than game played in each of the last two seasons, and being named a finalist for the 2013 Hart Trophy, awarded to the league's most valuable player.

And one more thing . . . you see either of those guys head to the locker room? Nope. They both gave the trainer their tooth and went back out there.

Matthew Stafford was the No. 1 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Let's see him do that.
