Flames' Ferland to face Panthers after eight-game layoff
Forward Micheal Ferland will return from an eight-game absence on Tuesday as the Calgary Flames open a four-game road trip versus the Florida Panthers.
Ferland, who has been sidelined since Oct. 23 with a sprained MCL, will play on the team's fourth line with Derek Grant and Josh Jooris. Ferland has one assist in seven contests this season.
"I'm really excited to get back into the game," the 23-year-old Ferland told the team's website. "I want to come in and help the team as much as I can."
Ferland had a team-high 50 hits during Calgary's run to the second round of the playoffs before falling to the Anaheim Ducks.
Signed to a two-year contract extension in the offseason, Ferland collected two goals and three assists in 26 games during his rookie season in 2014-15. He also scored three times and set up two others in the playoffs.
