Devils hire Foligno as assistant coach

Mike Foligno has joined the New Jersey Devils as an assistant coach.

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello announced the appointment to Pete DeBoer's staff on Friday. Foligno replaces Matt Shaw, who left to become head coach of Dubuque in the USHL.

New Jersey also announced the signing of center Jacob Josefson to a one-year, $725,000 contract on Friday. The 22-year-old restricted free agent had a goal and two assists in 22 games with the Devils last season.

Foligno spent last season as an assistant coach with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. He had been an assistant with Anaheim, Colorado and Toronto in the NHL. The 54-year-old Foligno has head coaching experience with the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL and Colorado's AHL Hershey affiliate.

Foligno, who played 15 seasons in the NHL with Detroit, Buffalo, Toronto and Florida, began his professional coaching career with St. John's in the AHL in the 1995-96 season.
