Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs 2016: Preview, live stream and TV info
The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs will meet for the second time in two nights this evening at Joe Louis Arena.
If the Detroit Red Wings can continue their preseason run into the regular season, they will get off to a great start in 2016. The Wings improved to 5-1-1 after defeating the Maple Leafs 2-1 Friday night, and for the first time this preseason Red Wings fans will welcome back Henrik Zetterberg.
Zetterberg has been out since August after he injured his knee preparing for the World Cup of Hockey. Tonight Henrik is expected to be back in the Red Wings’ lineup, which is great news with the season opener less than a week away. Reports indicate that Zetterberg is expected to play on the second line with new center Frans Nielsen.
Another great sign for the Red Wings on Friday was the play of goaltender Jimmy Howard.
Howard played the entire game in goal for the Red Wings, giving up just one goal while making 19 saves. Evgeny Svechnikov had himself a game for Detroit, scoring both goals for the Wings in last night’s win. The first-round draft pick in 2015 lit the lamp in the first and second period as he continues to impress in the preseason. The lone Toronto goal was scored by Brendan Leipsic early in the first period.
Tonight’s game vs. Toronto will conclude the preseason schedule, however, it will be a fairly special since it is against the Leafs. The fans in Motown always get a bit geared up when an Original Six team comes to town, not to mention that Mike Babcock is now coaching for Toronto.
Sure, it has been over a year now, but the cheers and jeers will still be there from Wings fans towards the long time former Detroit coach.
Tonight’s game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. ET from Joe Louis Arena. Fans can catch the game live on Fox Sports Detroit and streaming online through the FSN app.
