We’ve made it to December, and Christmas is 17 days away. What better way to count down to present opening and eggnog than looking at Chicago Blackhawks greats, and not so greats, who have worn sweater numbers 25-1. This isn’t a, ‘Best Blackhawk To Wear…’ list. This is just ‘A Blackhawk That Wore/Wears…’ So if your favorite isn’t on this list, don’t come crying to me. Or do. I don’t care. Anyway, here we go …
When one thinks of the greatest players in Chicago Blackhawks history, no offense, but Sheldon Brookbank is almost certainly not among them.
Signed as a free agent after the 2011-12 season, Brookbank joined the Blackhawks after playing in his first 80-game season in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks and posting a career-high 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) and averaging a career-high in time on ice with 15:36.
Brookbank’s role on the Blackhawks was an in-between player in Chicago’s defensive core, playing in 26 games during the lockout-shortened 2013 season and making one appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs during their run to winning the Stanley Cup for the second time in three seasons.
Moving into the 2013-14 season, Brookbank played more of a major role, skating in 48 games and tallying seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) with seven appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs (2 assists).

After his two seasons with the Blackhawks, his contract wasn’t renewed and he was released from a tryout contract with the Calgary Flames in 2014.
Brookbank played in Russia with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL and in Finland with Lukko Rauma. Brookbank returned to North American hockey, signing with the defending Calder Cup champion Cleveland Monsters for the 2016-17 season.
In total, Brookbank has played in 351 career NHL games with 44 points and 473 penalty minutes, while also totaling 361 AHL games with 125 points and 970 penalty minutes.
Brookbank’s time in Chicago was brief, but it got him a Stanley Cup championship, so for that we say congratulations and best wishes to Brookbank in his future.
