VANCOUVER (AP) Vancouver Canucks coach Willie Desjardins will miss training camp after undergoing hip surgery, but the team expects he'll be ready for the season opener next month.

The Canucks say Desjardins had the operation Tuesday to treat ''an acute flare up of his pre-existing hip condition.''

Desjardins also will miss the 2015 Young Stars tournament this week in Penticton, British Columbia.

Travis Green, coach of the AHL's Utica Comets, will handle the Young Stars event. Canucks assistants Doug Lidster, Glen Gulutzan and Perry Pearn handle camp and preseason coaching duties.
