Buffalo Sabres Have Acquired Nathan Beaulieu from Montreal

The Buffalo Sabres Have Acquired Restricted Free Agent Nathan Beaulieu from Montreal for a Third Round Draft Pick.

Saturday has been a busy day, to say the least, a few trades and some re-signings have definitely made the day go by much quicker. The Buffalo Sabres have bolstered their defense with the acquisition of Nathan Beaulieu from Montreal for their third round draft pick in this years entry draft.

The 24-year-old defenseman and former first-round draft choice has been a solid player for the Canadiens the last few seasons. In 2015-16, Nathan played 64 games for Montreal recording 19 points, 55 penalty minutes and a minus-six rating. However, in 2016-17 Beaulieu had a much better season putting up 28 points in 74 games with 44 penalty minutes and a plus-eight rating.

Before that Nate split time between Montreal and Hamilton (the Habs old AHL affiliate) from 2012-13 to 2014-15. During that time frame, Nathan played 87 games for Montreal tallying 13 points. But down in the AHL, Nate played 132 games and in doing so scored 62 points.

What made Nate so successful was his time in the QMJHL when he played four seasons with the Saint John Sea Dogs putting up 152 points in 233 games with 206 penalty minutes and a massive plus 124 rating.

He's definitely going to be playing top four minutes with Buffalo and since they're likely going to lose a defenseman like Dmitry Kulikov in the expansion draft, Beaulieu has been a key acquisition.
