On Tuesday the Buffalo Sabres announced the signing of backup goaltender Linus Ullmark to a two-year extension worth $1,500,000 with an annual average of $750,000 per season. The 23-year-old netminder appeared in 21 games last season for the Sabres posting an 8-11-2 record along with a .913 save percentage and a 2.62 goals-against-average.

"Linus has worked hard both on and off the ice, and his performance at both the NHL and AHL levels has reflected those efforts," said Sabres General Manager Jason Botterill. "He made great strides during his second season in North America and we are eager to see him continue his development."

Ullmark was drafted by the Sabres in the sixth round in 2012, he spent most of the last season with Rochester in the AHL where he led his team as well as the league in saves made with 1,525. He improved from his 2015-16 season with a record of 26-27-2 and a .909 save percentage and a 2.87 goals-against-average. Ullmark also appeared in the AHL All-Star game last season as well.

Ullmark began his hockey career in Sweden for the MODO club at both junior and elite levels. With Ullmark now under contract at a cheap rate and having such high potential upside, he could very well be selected by the Golden Knights on the 21st of June. Or the Sabres could be moving forward with him and leaving starter Robin Lehner exposed instead, we will definitely have to wait and see.
