Blackhawks sign three
The Chicago Blackhawks have signed goaltender Alexander Salak to a two-year contract and forwards Byron Froese and David Gilbert to three-year deals.
The 24-year-old Salak helped lead Farjestad BK to the 2011 Swedish Elitserien championship, ranking second along league goalies with a 1.97 GAA and .926 save percentage in 33 regular-season contests. He was acquired by Chicago, along with forward Michael Frolik, in a trade with the Florida Panthers on Feb. 9. He played in two games for the Panthers last season.
Froese had 43 goals for the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League last season and was a fourth-round pick of Chicago in 2009.
Gilbert played with Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and also with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League last season. He was a seventh-round pick of Chicago two years ago.
