Blackhawks' Keith discusses 'fired up' comment

Published Apr. 24, 2013 4:41 p.m. ET

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith says he meant no disrespect to women during an argument with a female radio reporter in Vancouver.

Keith, preparing for a game in Edmonton against the Oilers, said Wednesday he was ''fired up'' after Chicago lost 3-1 to the Vancouver Canucks.

Reporter Karen Thomson asked him about a possible penalty involving Canucks forward Daniel Sedin. Keith questioned her hockey knowledge and mockingly suggested she might be a candidate to become the NHL's first female referee.

Keith says he doesn't like losing and adds he doesn't differentiate between male and female reporters. Thomson said on Twitter she believes the comments were made in the heat of moment and she has moved on.
