Skip Bayless: The NFL should treat the Lambeau Leap like Zeke's kettle jump
Ezekiel Elliott dodged a fine Monday morning for his illegal touchdown celebration Sunday night against the Buccaneers, but his hop into a Salvation Army kettle earned him a 15-yard penalty for excessive celebration.
On Monday's episode of Undisputed, Skip Bayless argued that Elliott's celebration was no different than Green Bay Packers players taking the Lambeau Leap after touchdowns, and that the penalty highlights an inconsistency in NFL rules.
Since Elliott didn't place the kettle in the back of the endzone himself to use it as a prop, Bayless questioned why he was penalized.
"I’m conflicted on this one, the first time I am because usually I am zero tolerance on the no-celebration rule. No props can be used, no choreographed endzone celebrations with teammates that might show up the other team…. but I’m conflicted this time because this was not a prop. It’s not like Zeke put the Salvation Army kettle at the back of the endzone, right?”
.... This next offseason, the Lambeau Leap should be outlawed, and I’m not kidding. It should be outlawed.
I’m not sure how it got grandfathered in because the stands are being used as a prop. The fans are being used as a prop."
