PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (AP) Maine's collegiate Nordic ski championship had to take a detour around a bear den.
Officials say the den with a hibernating mother bear and two cubs was discovered Saturday near the race course during the event in Presque Isle, Maine.
Colby head coach Tracey Cote said the race had to be delayed 30 minutes so that the women's race course could be changed. The men's race already had been completed.
Colby won the overall competition to claim the Chummy Broomhall cup.

The race honored the two-time Olympian and decorated World War II veteran who was instrumental in bringing skiing to Maine. Broomhall died on Dec. 30 at age 98 in Maine.
