McNabb trade to Vikings is finalized

Donovan McNabb’s controversial stay in the nation’s capital is over.

FOXSports.com has learned the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to acquire McNabb in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2012 draft and possibly a conditional 2013 draft pick, contingent on certain 2011 performance goals reached by the former Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins quarterback.

According to the Washington Post, McNabb agreed to a contract for much less money with the Vikings, finalizing the deal. In 2010, McNabb signed a five-year, $78.5 million contract extension with the Redskins last November, with about $40 million guaranteed.

McNabb, 34, will be expected to take over the starting job in Minnesota while the Vikings work to groom Christian Ponder, their 2011 first-round draft pick.

A first-round pick of the Eagles in the 1999 NFL Draft and the second overall pick that year, McNabb played 11 seasons in Philadelphia and spent a tumultuous 2010 season feuding with Redskins coach Mike Shanahan and the team's offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan.
