Matthew Stafford Trucks Titans DB, Then Throws INT To Him (Video)

It was a wacky game between the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans in week two of the 2016 NFL season. Especially for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Things couldn’t have started much better. Stafford seemed to have an answer for everything the Titans defense tried. He was completing passes and even making some big plays with his legs. By the end of the game he’d rushed for 31 yards. By far the most memorable moment came on a scrambling drill early in the game. Stafford weaved through the defense and saw open field. He tucked the ball to run and then saw cornerback Perrish Cox coming at him. What happened next is bound to get replayed for weeks to come.

It was not the best moment for Cox who has had his struggles at times since joining the Titans a year ago. Still as the game went on things began to shift. Detroit committed a series of costly penalties that prevented them from scoring touchdowns. By the second half they were ahead, but just 15-3. Stafford had also cooled off. The absence of Calvin Johnson far more noticeable than a week prior. He finished with 22-of-40 passes completed.
Worse still he had an angry defensive back out for revenge in Cox and sure enough that truck came back to haunt him. Tennessee roared back with 13 unanswered points to take a 16-15 lead. Stafford still had a chance to rally the Lions regardless, just like he’d done the week before in Indianapolis. This time though he wasn’t so lucky, and it was Cox who made him pay.

It was the first sign of life for that talented young Titans team and a big road win. Meanwhile more questions must be asked about the state of the Detroit Lions. Their penalties once again cost them a game a they should’ve had in the bag early. The running game was non-existent as usual and Stafford looked ineffective without Megatron for the first time.
