Jets LB calls Tom Coughlin's fourth-down decision 'so stupid'

One of the themes for the New York Giants this season has been the late-game decisions made by Tom Coughlin. In Week 13 against the New York Jets, that trend continued with Coughlin deciding to go for it on fourth down late in the game.

With the Giants leading 20-10 and just 8:50 left on the clock, Coughlin elected to go for it on fourth-and-2 from the Jets' 4-yard line. The play resulted in an interception by Eli Manning, giving the Jets the ball down 10 points.

Of course, the Jets went on to win in over time after scoring 13-unanswered points to knock off the Giants, 23-20. The decision to pass on three points clearly came back to haunt the Giants, and Jets linebacker Trevor Reilly didn't let them forget that after the game.

“It was stupid, so stupid,” Reilly said via CBS New York. “You kick the field goal there. I mean, you’re winning by 10 points in the fourth quarter. If they kick the field goal we’re down two touchdowns. When they went for it we were like, ‘Shoot, we got it now.'”

This game proved to be pivotal for both teams as the Giants' playoff hopes are dwindling. The Jets, on the other hand, currently hold a wild-card berth after the win and control their own destiny for a postseason run.
