Former Alabama QB Blake Sims getting NFL shot at new position

Former Alabama quarterback Blake Sims finally is getting a shot in the NFL — but at another position.

Sims, 24, was signed Tuesday to the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad as a running back, which he played before he moved to QB.

Sims won national championships in 2012 and '13 as a backup, then as a redshirt senior starter in 2014, he threw for 3,487 yards and 28 touchdowns in leading the Crimson Tide to an SEC championship. However, the Tide lost to eventual champion Ohio State in the playoff and he went undrafted.

He attended minicamps with the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers last year but wasn't signed.
