Falcons reward GM Thomas Dimitroff for the team's 6-3 start

After three years of struggles, the Atlanta Falcons appear to have righted the ship with a 6-3 start, and that turnaround was rewarded Monday when the team gave general manager Thomas Dimitroff a three-year contract extension through 2019.

The Falcons are 80-57 since Dimitroff was hired before the 2008 season, but they were 18-30 the past three years after making the postseason in four of the GM’s first five seasons.

Dimitroff entered this season in the final year of his contract and on the hot seat, but Atlanta started 4-0 and is now on a two-game winning streak after losing three straight. The length of his contract matches the length of head coach Dan Quinn’s deal. Quinn replaced Mike Smith before the 2015 season and has a 14-11 record.
