Bears offensive coordinator Gase interviews with Dolphins

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:02 p.m. ET

MIAMI (AP) Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase has become the fifth coach to interview for the Miami Dolphins' head job.

Gase met with Dolphins officials Thursday. They've also interviewed former NFL coach Mike Shanahan, former Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and Buffalo Bills running backs coach and assistant head coach Anthony Lynn.

Gase is the league's hottest head coaching candidate among assistants. He interviewed Tuesday with the Eagles and Wednesday with the Browns, and is regarded by some as the front-runner for the Miami job.

A year ago, Gase followed head coach John Fox from Denver to Chicago after interviewing for head jobs with the Bears, 49ers, Bills and Falcons. He has been a target of NFL head coaching searches for at least three years.
