Report: Roy Hibbert waived $2.2 million in trade bonus to join Lakers
The Indiana Pacers and Roy Hibbert's time together had clearly come to an end by the final stretch of the 2014-15 season. When Hibbert opted into his contract, it became something of an imperative for the Pacers to find a trade to send him elsewhere. And when the Los Angeles Lakers struck out in free agency, things worked out well for everyone involved.
And according to the LA Times, Hibbert was willing to take a little less money in order to make his way out of Indiana:
"Hibbert was eligible to receive 15% of his $15.5-million salary for the coming season ($2.3 million), to be paid out by the Pacers. Instead the two-time All-Star will receive a bonus of just $78,185," Eric Pincus reports.
The trade and the subsequent bump in Hibbert's cap figure as a result will put the Lakers $100,000 over the salary cap, according to Pincus, which shouldn't have any ramifications in the team's financial flexibility.
