Masai Ujiri said there would be a Canadian player on the Toronto Raptors before his tenure was up, and he stayed true to his word by signing Toronto native Cory Joseph to a four year, $30 million deal.
According to Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun, the Raptors had been in pursuit of Joseph for some time:
"The Spurs, who had turned down at least two trade offers for Joseph from the Raptors over the years, according to sources, reluctantly no longer had the cap space to keep a player they have always liked."
Joseph averaged 13 points and nearly four assists in his 14 starts last season. He should be able to immediately back up Kyle Lowry.
