Pistons' Andre Drummond beats buzzer with longest shot in eight years
There must be something with the baskets at the Palace of Auburn Hills this season.
Back in December, Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes hit a game-winner from half-court to beat Detroit. But that was nothing compared to what Andre Drummond did on Monday night.
The Pistons All-Star center, shooting a robust 34.9 percent from the free-throw line entering Monday, hit a 3/4-court shot (71 feet, to be exact) to beat the third-quarter buzzer against the visiting Toronto Raptors:
While we’re on the subject of numbers, the free-throw line is 15 feet from the basket, or 21.1 percent of the distance Drummond’s buzzer-beater traveled on Monday.
According to the ESPN Stats & Info, Drummond's shot was the farthest make in eight years, since Jose Calderon made a shot from the same distance in 2008. Naturally, LeBron James has the NBA’s longest field goal in the last 10 seasons:
Unfortunately for the Pistons, Drummond only finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and the team lost 103-89 to the Raptors.
At least this time they were on the right side of a ridiculous shot, unlike this time:
