Jamal Crawford wishes he were a free agent

Jamal Crawford's name has been involved with trade rumors for months. Apparently, he's fully aware of this.

So, when a fan asked the Clippers sixth man if he wants to be on the team next year, he gave an interesting answer:

He wants to be a free agent? Crawford is one of the league's good guys, but he's also realistic. He knows that considering the Clippers' shooting guard situation (they have Austin Rivers, Lance Stephenson, J.J. Redick, C.J. Wilcox and Crawford), the organization might be better off dealing him for another piece. He just wants to be able to control who his employer is.

The irony here is that Crawford could've been a free agent had the Clips handled their offseason differently. His contract wasn't fully guaranteed until July 1, which means had the Clips waived him between the end of the season and the start of free agency, they would've only had to pay $1.5 million and he could've hit the open market. But L.A. went a different route with its offseason.

That route included ignoring lots of what is best for Crawford, and that isn't just because they brought in a boatload of wings and shooting guards. Crawford was also a notable missing name from the team's last-second DeAndre Jordan recruiting trip in Houston, which Doc Rivers, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, Paul Pierce and Redick attended.
