Iverson's wife denies cheating rumors

The wife of Allen Iverson denied there was a third party involved in her bid to divorce the former NBA superstar, TMZ reported Saturday.

Tawanna Iverson, who filed for divorce last year but rescinded it, called the marriage "irretrievably broken" in a filing Monday in Fulton County, Ga. But she moved to kill rumors that an affair led her to resume her efforts to leave her husband.

"Cheating in the marriage has never been an issue," she said. "My decision to divorce has nothing to do with another woman. Sometimes people just grow apart, and it's just that simple. Many people want this to be more complicated than that, and it's not."

Tawanna Iverson is seeking sole custody of the couple's five children, child support and alimony payments and her share of the couple's assets.

Allen Iverson, 36, signed a two-year, $4 million contract last October with the Turkish club Besiktas after no NBA teams offered him a contract. He was plagued by injuries in his first season overseas and only played in 10 games.

The 11-time All-Star and four-time NBA scoring champion said last week he hoped to secure an invitation to an NBA training camp this summer, with his sights set on returning to the league next season. But the potential roadblock to that plan is the looming NBA lockout, which will go into effect July 1 if a new collective-bargaining agreement is not reached.
