Grizzlies assign three players to D-League

Published Dec. 17, 2015 3:51 p.m. ET

James Ennis might want to buy homes in two places with the way his new team is treating him. Ennis has played both in the D-League and the NBA for the Grizzlies ever since coming over to Memphis in the trade that featured more prime players Mario Chalmers and Beno Udrih. Now, after four performances with the Grizzlies at the NBA level, he's heading back to the D-League, and this time, it's with two teammates.

From the Grizzlies' official website:

Smith has gotten into 13 games this year, but is only playing garbage time and has failed to contribute over that period, shooting just 35 percent from the field. Martin, meanwhile, who broke his foot back in September, has yet to get into a game. All three players will, of course, get far more time in Iowa.

The Memphis Grizzlies assigned forward James Ennis, forward Jarell Martin and guard Russ Smith to the team’s NBA Development League affiliate, the Iowa Energy, Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace announced today. This marks the fourth assignment to Iowa for Ennis and the first for Smith and Martin this season.
