Former Pacer Stephen Jackson officially retires from the NBA

The age of Stack Jack in the NBA has officially come to a close, as former member of the Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs and other assorted teams Stephen Jackson announced on Thursday that he was retiring from the NBA.

You might be surprised to learn that wasn't already officially the case; Jackson hadn't played in an NBA game since January 4, 2014. But he'd been leaving the door open for a potential return up to this point.

Unfortunately for Jackson and Pacers fans, his time in Indiana will always be linked to the "Malice at the Palace" and his involvement in the fracas. It hits home especially hard for the Pacers because Jackson was part of what looked to be a championship-caliber core for Indiana. But that altercation derailed the Pacers' future and became a lasting part of Jackson's legacy.
