Cavs' Blatt may be NBA coach most in danger of losing his job
When the Cavaliers hired David Blatt to coach the team last summer, they didn't envision him getting a chance to guide the level of talent that's currently in place on the roster.
Blatt was hired well before LeBron James had decided to return to Cleveland, and was expected to head up a rebuilding effort focused around Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters, and a young Andrew Wiggins.
But once LeBron committed, everything changed. Contending for a title was immediately expected, and Blatt was able to deliver that in his first NBA season, leading his squard to the Finals. It wasn't without it's bumps in the road, however, and LeBron publicly chose to throw his coach under the bus more than once.
Entering Year 2, Blatt will face even more pressure to produce a championship if the team can remain healthy for its run through the postseason. Ken Berger of CBSSports.com wonders if Blatt's seat is the hottest among the league's 30 coaches.
It wouldn't be a “coaches on the hot seat” list without the hottest seat in the NBA. Having LeBron James on your team turns up the temperature considerably. The Cavs are just about a consensus pick to not only make it to the Finals, but win the whole thing. So there, Coach Blatt, all you have to do is win a championship and you're good. Those 17 other championships he's won won't mean a thing if James doesn't get another ring.
