Carmelo Anthony sorry he told angry Knicks fan to ask for refund

Published Mar. 2, 2016 1:20 p.m. ET

Carmelo Anthony apologized for telling an angry New York fan to ask for a refund during the Knicks' 104-85 drubbing against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.

The star forward issued a statement on Wednesday saying he was "frustrated" when he got into it with the fan late in the game, and said he "should not have responded the way I did" when he reportedly told the heckler to ask Knicks owner James Dolan, who was seated nearby, for the fan's money back.

Anthony issued this statement via the team:

After a promising start to the season, the Knicks have won only five of their last 20 games, falling to 25-37 after Tuesday's loss.
