Williams considers going public to ensure future

Formula One team Williams is considering going public to secure its long-term financial health as an independent team.

Team principal Frank Williams, who founded the team in 1972, says the British outfit is looking at a flotation on the stock market after it lost a number of sponsors in 2010.

Williams says he will remain the majority and controlling shareholder, but he could look for ''a stable core of long-term investors closely involved in the running of the team.''

Williams is F1's third-most successful team after Ferrari and McLaren with 113 victories in 565 races. It hasn't won a grand prix since 2004 and only finished sixth in the constructors' championship last season.
