Villwock wins Gold Cup hydroplane race in Detroit

Dave Villwock has won his fifth straight Gold Cup title and 10th overall on the Detroit River.

The hydroplane series' all-time winningest driver earned his 67th title Sunday with an average speed of 151.089 mph.

Steve David finished second and filed an appeal that was dismissed. David claimed Villwock cut in front of him on the second lap.

Three teams had blowovers during the same event for the first time in hydroplane racing since 2007.
