The tale of the lug nuts: Why crew chief suspensions matter

For as long as I can remember, NASCAR had a simple rule: Teams had to have five lug nuts tight on each of the four wheels at all times. If a crewman dropped a lug nut, his driver would have to bring the car back down pit road to get it reattached and tightened before he could race on track.

But it could happen. I sure hope it doesn't, but it could, which is a troubling thought, indeed.
