Sprint Unlimited carnage continues with third, fourth multi-car wrecks
While nearly half the field wrecked out of Saturday's Sprint Unlimited on Lap 45 of the 75-lap event, the wrecking was far from over.
On Lap 61, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. lost control of his No. 17 Ford in the middle of a three-wide situation as he went into Turn 3. As Stenhouse's car turned sideways, Austin Dillon's No. 3 Chevrolet had nowhere to go and drove into the door of the No. 17.
Just behind the incident, Danica Patrick suffered slight damage after Greg Biffle got into her from behind. Jeff Gordon also collected some damage to the right side of his No. 24 Chevrolet. Patrick, Biffle and Gordon were able to continue, though.
Once back to green-flag racing, the intensity was a high as ever. Racing through Turn 2, Tony Stewart's No. 14 Chevrolet bobbled and shot up the track in front of Kyle Busch. Losing control of the car, Stewart slid down the track and made heavy contact with Biffle before getting hit by Kurt Busch's No. 41 Chevrolet.
The contact from Stewart sent Biffle's No. 16 Ford down the backstretch at full speed before hitting the inside retaining wall with a massive impact. As Biffle's car spun wildly, he was then hit again by Busch's car.
All drivers were able to climb from their cars, but their Sprint Unlimited was over.
The second incident set up a four-lap run to the checkered flag.
