Silverstone changes circuit for British GP

Published Feb. 11, 2010 12:05 p.m. ET

Silverstone will lengthen each lap and create three more passing opportunities for this year's British Formula One Grand Prix.

Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, made the announcement on Thursday. He said the changes will add length to the track and nearly four seconds to lap times.

He added it would be a new challenge for the drivers and enable fans to get closer to the action.

The circuit regained the staging rights for the July 11 race after Donington Park failed to find the money to host it. It was already making improvements and those include a new pit and paddock complex for next year.
