Saturday night lights: Gordon looks to continue hot streak

All week I've been getting asked who my pick is for Saturday night's race at Bristol Motor Speedway. That's an easy one to answer -- Jeff Gordon. Now sure, I'd like to think that Carl Edwards could complete the Bristol sweep for 2014. I'd like to think that Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth or Clint Bowyer or any one of the other drivers who desperately needs a win to make the Chase will win the race.

Sure, I'd like to think that and hope that for those drivers who want to be in the Chase so badly with only three races left in our regular season, but how can you not pick the cat with the hot hand? Actually, Jeff Gordon isn't just hot; he's on fire of late. If you combine that with the fact he runs really well at Bristol and already has five wins at this joint, then Jeff is easily my pick.

For whatever reason as of late, Jeff and crew chief Alan Gustafson have really hit on something and are on a wonderful roll. In 23 starts this season, Jeff has already put three wins, eight top fives and 16 top-10 finishes on the board. Those are championship type numbers, folks. He won at Kansas earlier this year and then of late he's won the Brickyard 400 and last week at Michigan from the pole.

So I look for Super G to be super good one more time Saturday night at Bristol.
