Rain washes out practice at Martinsville

Published Oct. 28, 2011 6:06 p.m. ET

Rain has washed out all the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice and most of the truck series practice at Martinsville Speedway.

Most of the laps made around the track Friday were by jet driers trying to dry the surface. One truck series session was all that took place.

Practice is critically important for the Sprint Cup Series cars, with only four races left in the season. A 90-minute session beginning at 8:30 a.m. has been added to the schedule for Saturday. The forecast, however, calls for rain during that period.

Qualifying and the truck series race are scheduled for later Saturday, as is qualifying for the Cup series.

The Cup series race is scheduled for Sunday, when the forecast is for sunshine.
