Rain washes out Cup activities

NASCAR Sprint Cup practices and qualifying at Las Vegas Motor Speedway have been canceled because of rain at the track.

The field will be set by the NASCAR rulebook. That puts 2012 Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski on the pole for Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 400. Mike Bliss fails to make the race.

Rain fell throughout the morning and afternoon at Las Vegas, ending the sanctioning body’s chance to get any cars on the track. The Cup drivers were on the track throughout Thursday as a test session for the Generation 6 car.

NASCAR officials are planning to continue to try to get the Nationwide Series drivers on the track for some practice laps at some point.
