Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas took a big step toward defending their Grand-Am Rolex Series title Sunday, winning their fifth race of the season in the American Red Cross 250 at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Pruett drove the final stint in the No. 01 Telmex BMW/Riley, beating Max Angelelli in the No. 10 SunTrust Chevrolet/Dallara by 3.806 seconds in the 2-hour, 45-minute race held in near 100-degree heat.

Pruett and Rojas have a 29-point lead in the Daytona Prototype standings over Angelelli and co-driver Ricky Taylor.

The next race is Aug. 13 at Watkins Glen.
