Pedestrian struck inside Charlotte Motor Speedway
A great night of racing turned into a serious situation late Sunday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway when a vehicle struck a pedestrian near the backstretch tunnel after the Coca-Cola 600.
The pedestrian was believed to have been hit by the vehicle and dragged. A visor, sunglasses and cigarettes were on the ground roughly 40 feet from where the victim lay on the ground.
Emergency workers and EMTs were quickly on the scene, and traffic was diverted to elsewhere in the speedway as they worked on the victim.
Emergency workers were able to load the pedestrian into the back of an ambulance and took the pedestrian to the infield care center. The pedestrian was then transported to a local hospital via helicopter.
Law enforcement officials were seen gathering eyewitness accounts and taking pictures of the scene.
FOXSports.com was the only news outlet on the scene.
