Pagenaud-Brabham win Long Beach Le Mans race

Published Apr. 18, 2010 2:57 a.m. ET

Simon Pagenaud and co-driver David Brabham won an American Le Mans Series race Saturday, taking advantage of a braking problem by race leader Adrian Fernandez on the final lap.

Fernandez and co-driver Harold Primat traded leads with Pagenaud-Brabham most of the day in the LMP race, going ahead on a pass with about 4 minutes left. Fernandez was still leading in the final lap, but his brakes locked up on Turn 5 and Pagenaud whipped by and stayed ahead to win by 0.353 seconds.

The winning team won despite a stop-and-go penalty for avoidable contact suffered by Brabham in the 39th minute.

Brabham finished second at Long Beach with Scott Sharp last year.
