NASCAR is in Charlotte this weekend for the first race of the second round of the NASCAR Chase. Hurricane Matthew will also be around Charlotte this weekend and the result could hinder some on-track action.

There is good news and bad news when it comes to the NASCAR weekend in Charlotte.

The good news is that the forecast today (Thursday) looks better than it did on Tuesday. The bad news is that there is still going to be a lot of rain in the area and while the weekend might not be a wash, it could produce some delays.

Per NASCAR’s unofficial weatherman Neudorff, Friday looks to pretty much be a wash at this point. The National Weather Service is calling for a 90 percent chance of rain with heavy rains coming throughout the day. More than 1.5 inches of rain could fall throughout the day on Friday. While Friday seems to be lost, Saturday is not gone yet.

Per the most recent updates from The Weather Channel, rain is expected throughout the day on Saturday but there could be a clearing heading into the night. This provides some hope that the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series might be able to run as scheduled or close to as scheduled. Granted, that is far from being a sure thing.

At this point it seems almost a sure thing that Friday will indeed be a wash which would mean that the XFINITY Series race Friday night and any practices scheduled for Friday would be lost. The Sprint Cup series qualifies Thursday night so that should not be impacted by the weather.

Be sure to follow along with BTF for qualifying coverage tonight and further weather updates heading into the race weekend.
