NASCAR Hall of Fame among buildings hit by riots

The NASCAR Hall of Fame in Uptown Charlotte was one of several businesses targeted during riots Wednesday night in protest of a police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, 43, at an apartment complex near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Tuesday.

Windows were smashed at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the adjacent Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant, as well as at the NASCAR Tower office complex, but so far it appears protesters did not enter the Hall and damage its exhibits.

The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority oversees the NASCAR Hall of Fame building and the convention center next door. An official told the Associated Press that the building is being assessed for damage.

Despite the damage, the NASCAR Hall of Fame is open for business to the public today.

According to local news outlets, a street sign hung off-kilter from the front window of the hall's building after someone tried to pry it from the window.
