Kyle Larson, who missed Sunday's STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway after fainting during an autograph session on Saturday at the track, has been released from a Charlotte, North Carolina hospital but his immediate future in racing remains uncertain.

Chip Ganassi Racing announced Tuesday afternoon that Larson, the 2014 Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year, has not yet received medical clearance to race.

"After extensive testing and observation over the last few days, Kyle Larson was released from the hospital last night and has finished up final tests today," Chip Ganassi Racing said in a statement. "He is currently waiting for final doctor recommendations in order to clear him to return to all NASCAR related activities."

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has this weekend off in observance of the Easter holiday, and will return to action the following Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway where it is not known if Larson will compete.

The 22-year-old driver's seat was filled at Martinsville by Regan Smith, who brought the No. 42 Chevrolet home in 16th.

Larson spent Saturday and Sunday night in the hospital, where initial tests came back negative.

The second-year Sprint Cup driver is the second big-name driver to miss seat time this season due to a medical condition.

Joe Gibbs Racing's Kyle Busch has missed each of the season's first six races and remains sidelined indefinitely after suffering a compound fracture of his lower right leg and a mid-foot fracture of his left foot in the NASCAR XFINITY Series opener at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 21.

Kyle Busch's other brother, Kurt, sat out the first three races while serving a suspension.
