Justin Allgaier, HScott Motorsports to skip Sprint Showdown

After three wrecks in the last four races, HScott Motorsports has decided to sit out this weekend's Sprint Showdown at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The 40-lap qualifying race for the Sprint All-Star Race is a non-points-paying race, so the team and rookie driver Justin Allgaier have nothing to lose by opting not to run the event.

While Allgaier will have less track time than the other drivers entered in the event, he believes the limited amount of practice does not outweigh the risks of wrecking yet another car.

"At the end of the day, I know why we're doing it and I understand it," Allgaier said. "I would much rather go to try and win the (Coca-Cola) 600 than to just try and make it through the Showdown."

The team purchases equipment from Hendrick Motorsports, something Allgaier points out is "not cheap, and they're not the easiest to get."

By sitting out the Sprint Showdown, Allgaier believes the break will give his team the time to recover, regroup and rebuild its inventory after a rough few weeks on the track.
