Jose Ramon Carabante takes over the Campos F1 team

Published Feb. 19, 2010 8:57 p.m. ET

Campos Meta president Jose Ramon Carabante of Spain has increased his stake in the Formula One team to become its majority shareholder.

Carabante joined the team formed by Adrian Campos and Enrique Rodriguez last March, along with Spanish basketball stars Paul Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers and Jorge Garbajosa, a former Toronto Raptor.

Carabante said in a statement on Friday that he took control of an undisclosed stake to ensure the team would be ready to make its F1 debut at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix on March 14.

Carabante said the team would remain based in Spain. Colin Kolles, the former team principal and managing director of Jordan, Midland and Force India, will fill the same positions at Campos.
