Johnson on pole after rainout

Published Jun. 7, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Jimmie Johnson will start from the pole position for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race after practice and qualifying were washed out at Pocono Raceway on Friday.

The field was set based on the rulebook, which put points leader Johnson on the pole with Carl Edwards starting alongside him on the front row.

The Sprint Cup drivers were scheduled to get on track for a 90-minute session midday and to qualify late in the afternoon, but rain has continually fallen at the track.

According to weather.com, the precipitation is expected to continue off and on until approximately 3 a.m. ET.

NASCAR's Air Titan drying system is at the track, but there was not enough of break in the rain to allow it to be used.
