Joe Gibbs Racing hires new pit crew coach
Joe Gibbs Racing made a change at their pit crew coaching position on Wednesday.
Longtime coach Mike Lepp has been moved to the role of senior athletic adviser, making Matt Osborn the new man in charge of pit crew operations.
Since joining JGR in 2007, Lepp has made all four pit crews the ones to beat week in and week out.
Lepp has two pit crew championships on his resume, with two consecutive wins in 2010 and 2011 with the No. 11 pit crew of Denny Hamlin.
He was also responsible for putting together the No. 19 crew when Carl Edwards moved to JGR from Roush Fenway Racing.
"This is the right time for me to make a change and I'm excited about my new role in the organization," Lepp said in a team press release. "I'm proud of what we've accomplished on pit road and I know Matt will continue to do a great job going forward."
