Harvick to get new Nationwide crew chief

Published Aug. 30, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Kevin Harvick Inc. and David Hyder have parted ways.

Hyder was hired last October by KHI and worked as a crew chief on the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. The car is currently fourth in the Nationwide points standings but has yet to win a race.

The 43-year-old High Point, NC native drove Late Models before transitioning into a role as a car chief with Petty Enterprises. Before KHI, Hyder worked as a crew chief for the Wood Brothers, Michael Waltrip Racing and Bill Davis Racing.

This season, KHI has fielded an all-star cast featuring drivers Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Paul Menard and Austin Dillon in the car. Bowyer finished third in the car at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday night.

Chris Carrier is expected to take over in the crew chief role this weekend as Harvick takes the wheel. The 30-year motorsports veteran was hired to be the crew chief for Nelson Piquet Jr. and the No. 8 KHI truck.
