Hamilton: India GP error my mistake

Published Oct. 28, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton blamed himself for a mistake that will cost him three grid places at the Formula One Indian Grand Prix.

Hamilton expressed disappointment at the number of times he had been penalized by stewards this season, but accepted Friday's penalty — his sixth of the season — was ''my fault, as usual.''

He was penalized for opening the rear wing on his McLaren — thereby increasing speed — in a part of the circuit where double yellow flags were being waved to warn drivers to slow down while marshals removed a stricken car.

Hamilton said he had ''no one else to blame'' for the penalty. Sauber's Sergio Perez was given the same penalty.
