Fantastic finish: Logano outduels Crafton, others to win Truck race

Joey Logano passed Matt Crafton on the final restart to capture the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway, giving Logano his first career win in the series.

Logano admitted afterward that he wanted the victory badly because he now owns victories in each of NASCAR's top three national touring series -- Sprint Cup, XFINITY and now the CWTS.

"It's special to me because now I can say I've won in all three series," Logano said.

Yet, it almost didn't happen. In a wild finish on the .526-mile short track, Crafton passed Cole Custer with two laps to go in the regularly-scheduled distance of the race after trucks driven by the two were beating and banging on each other for the better part of an entire lap. Custer lost control of his truck in the aftermath, however, and his spin brought out the caution to set up with G-W-C finish.

On the ensuing restart, Logano started on the second row, directly behind Crafton on the front row. But the Sprint Cup veteran got a great jump and passed Crafton to the inside as Crafton also dealt with Erik Jones on the outside.

Crafton ended up finishing second and maintained his points lead in the series. Jones finished third, followed by Johnny Sauter, Tyler Reddick and Daniel Suarez. Rounding out the top 10 were James Buescher, John Wes Townley, Matt Tiff and Justin Boston.

Custer, a 17-year-old rookie driving a JR Motorsports truck in that organization's first foray into the series, led briefly after a dramatic pass of both Logano and Crafton with five laps to go -- after all three cars repeatedly made contact with one another. But Custer finished 16th after getting turned by Crafton three laps later.

Reddick trails Crafton by a mere two points in the series standings, with Jones, Sauter and Buescher rounding out the top five in points.

The Truck Series is now off until racing next on May 8 at Kansas Speedway.
