One of India's top racing officials says a visiting Formula One inspector is satisfied with progress at the Budh International Race Circuit that will host the country's first Grand Prix this year.

Vicky Chandhok, who heads the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, says Thursday that Formula One race director Charlie Whiting stated progress ''was more than satisfactory and exceeded expectations'' since the last inspection.

Chandhok says the final grade one certification will be issued one week before the event, which is scheduled for Oct. 30.

The new 3.2-mile circuit is situated 24 miles from New Delhi in Noida.
