Charges dropped against NASCAR founder's grandson

Drug possession and driving under the influence charges have been dropped against a grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France.

Police said they pulled over J.C. France on Oct. 8 because he ran a red light and had apparently been racing his green 2007 Lamborghini. Officers searched and found a substance that gave presumptive positive reactions for cocaine.

However, according to court documents, a judge granted France's request to have the evidence thrown out because a Daytona Beach officer pulled France over for an infraction that happened outside his jurisdiction.

The order was dated March 29, and the charges were dismissed the next day.

France is a driver on NASCAR's Grand-Am Series.

A telephone message left for France's attorney was not immediately returned Friday morning.
